Contact
To reach me by phone or e-mail, please use the phone number and e-mail link above. If you're experiencing an emergency and can't reach me immediately, call 911 or visit your nearest hospital emergency room.
New Clients
Initial appointments are arranged through a brief phone call (my phone is 415.271.2350). During that call, I try to get a general sense of the issues you're addressing. I also ask questions to make sure that your needs are likely to fit my training and expertise. If not, instead of meeting, I try to offer appropriate referrals to a therapist or clinic more suitable to your needs and wants. (If I'm not on your insurance panel, check with your insurance company to see if they would reimburse you for my services as an out-of-network provider. For more about fees and third-party payment, select this link.)
If we do set up a meeting, I'll refer you to my intake page, which guides you through that process.
Current Clients Making an Appointment
For your convenience, I maintain a listing of available times on my open appointments calendar. I've set it up so you have to call or e-mail me to request a time rather than do so automatically, This is because I may not immediately get to synchronize the appointments on my phone with the calendar page on this website.
Because confidentiality through non-encrypted e-mail cannot be assured, I invite you to call me for confidential communications. For non-confidential correspondence, please use the e-mail links on this page. If I don't return your call or e-mail, please persist. Sometimes phone reception for voicemails gets garbled or e-mails disappear in route, so try again, and I'll get back to you as soon as possible.
To Send Me Encrypted E-mail
I have joined a service called HushMail that encrypts e-mails. Although no electronic communication is totally invulnerable to hackers, it's much less likely that e-mails through the HushMail service can be read en route by someone other than you and me. To send an e-mail through HushMail, you need an account with them, and they offer an option at no charge. They also say that users of an encryption technology called PGP can also send encrypted e-mails that can be read through my HushMail account. Here's a link to HushMail so you can check them out. My e-mail address there is drgary at hushmail dot com. If I don't return your e-mail, please try and contact me again as there can always be technology slip-ups.
